We’ve now shared (in fact a little more than expected in terms of word count) all of volume 1. It took us further into Kristen being in Hole than we originally planned and included excerpts from her journals and some musical demos- in fact the act of searching for demos I think caused more to be found by Jason than we’d hoped for. I was astonished to hear Kristen’s singing voice and that insight into her as a potential front-woman and it was cool to see Substack inform us we’d reached ‘bestseller’ status.
Jason and I wanted to share some additional Kristen-inspired material for all subscribers as a thank you.
Kristen’s ex, Mike Huber said in 2020 'One thing that has always bothered me is when people refer to [Kristen] as just another "dead rock star". Reading Guy Mankowski's new novel "Dead Rock Stars" brought this up for me again. The book really shows the human being behind the persona of a rock star. Highly recommend this book.'
I think the novel may find a place with some of the subscribers here so am attaching it here-
We’re planning to release volume 2 as soon as we can get clearance- it’s a relief just to have volume 1 out after all this waiting and it has been rewarding to hear people’s reaction to this information about Kristen’s life. Lots more material to come (another book) but we first need to engage with those Kristen had strong insights on in her journal recordings before we can share it so we don’t yet know when that would be. Ps for those with monthly subscriptions it'll keep coming out of your accounts whilst your paid subscription is ongoing (though when you do cancel its access to the paid posts is obviously lost). GM
Below (for paid subscribers only) is an unreleased video of one of Janitor Joes last shows while Kristen was on hiatus from Hole. The tour included Hammerhead and this is from a show in Germany! Kristen struggled to agree to play there due to its history. This pic is from same tour: JP
